Gilly, who was trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, was a professional actress for twenty-five years up until 1982,
working under her maiden name of Gillian Barclay.

Between them they also ran the British Toymakers Guild for eight years in the seventies, acquiring an extensive knowledge of different craft disciplines which they have been able to utilize in the enhancement of their work in the miniatures field.

Peter is a member of the Heraldry Society, and was a founder member of the Society of Heraldic Arts and its Chairman for four years. He is an Honorary Member of the Guild of Master Craftsmen.
