MT Program:

The Management Trainee Program is a non-rotational program that develops leaders who will drive the future of our organization. It’s a paid, full-time program for recent graduates with less than four years of professional work experience. Career opportunities will follow with hard work, the desire to learn, and the ability to develop productive working relationships.

Upon arrival at BNSF, Management Trainees receive an overview of our railroad and industry during orientation at our Fort Worth, Texas headquarters. Once the one-week orientation is complete, Management Trainees move into their assigned departments for on-the-job training, if in corporate departments (Accounting/Finance, Corporate Audit, Human Resources, Marketing, Sourcing, or Technology Services). If in an operations department (Engineering, Mechanical, or Transportation), following orientation, you will spend time at our Technical Training Center in Overland Park, Kan., learning to lead a diverse workgroup to safely and efficiently accomplish work assignments and goals that are in line with the company’s vision.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Management trainees in this position are primarily responsible for execution of analysis and testing as part of audits. Audits can be focused on the revenue / finance and subsidiary governance processes, or operational processes:

Duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Manage work assignments and timelines.
  • Under supervision, develop detailed test procedures that address audit objectives and significant risks.
  • Interpret and evaluate audit evidence.
  • Document work performed with logical conclusions and appropriate audit evidence and support.
  • Present audit results, both in written and verbal formats.

Additionally, qualified candidates must be able to:

  • Demonstrate the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities listed above.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills.
  • Work effectively in a team environment.
  • Express ideas and information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Recognize and respond effectively to unexpected situations and tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing task priorities and work situations.
  • Demonstrate ability to complete tasks regardless of obstacles.

  • Primarily an office environment, with some field activities.
  • Normal office hours, Monday through Friday, with weekend or evening work as required.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT

  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 for engineering majors OR cumulative GPA of 3.0 for non-engineering majors.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Graduate degree from an accredited university to be completed prior to hire OR have obtained a degree within the past three (3) years.
  • Less than three (3) years of work experience in a professional work environment. When calculating work experience, EXCLUDE internships or positions held while in high school or college.
  • Authorization to work in the US without Company sponsorship now AND in the future.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (specifically Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above.
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Transportation Logistics, OR other Business-related degree.
  • Previous work experience in a related field.
  • Proven leadership experience and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (specifically Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).

Our Management Trainee program is geared towards recent college graduates with four years or less experience in a post-collegiate professional work environment.
